Zimmer90 is a rising Indie-Electropop project from Stuttgart, Germany, formed in 2018 by three university friends: Joscha Becker, Finn Gronemeyer, and Michael Schoett. Though originally a trio, the band transitioned into a duo in late 2023 after drummer Michael Schoett stepped away from the core lineup to focus on live performances only. Today, Zimmer90 is spearheaded by vocalist/keyboardist Joscha and bassist/synth player Finn, who have developed a unique blend of melancholic intimacy and groove-driven euphoria that defines their sound. The band’s name, “Zimmer90” (literally: Room 90), refers to the conceptual space they create when writing music together—a symbolic room of emotion, memory, and movement. This idea permeates their work, as they aim to evoke a sense of personal, inward space where listeners can reflect, feel, and dream. Their music is shaped by the notion that each listener imagines their own "room," making every song an emotionally flexible experience. Zimmer90 gained traction during the COVID-19 lockdown with their debut single “Movin’” in April 2020, which became a minor viral hit, garnering over half a million streams on Spotify. The track introduced their signature style: smooth, laid-back vocals layered over glittering synths and driving electronic beats—dreamy but danceable. In April 2021, they released their first EP “Fall Back,” co-produced with Mario Simic. It was supported by Kitsuné Musique, a respected French indie-electronic label, further signaling Zimmer90’s international ambitions. Songs from this era began to showcase a careful tension between warm nostalgia and contemporary rhythm, echoing influences like Roosevelt, Parcels, or HONNE. The following years saw increasing output and experimentation: In 2023, Zimmer90 released the “Spaces” EP through Berlin-based label Humming Records, followed by a more introspective, self-released EP titled “Lake Diaries.” These projects deepened their palette, embracing themes of isolation, longing, and emotional vulnerability—yet always wrapped in sparkling production and rhythmic buoyancy. Their breakout moment came later that year with the single “What Love Is,” which exploded across TikTok and Instagram Reels, earning spots in major algorithm-driven playlists and widening their global audience. The song became a touchstone for their brand of emotionally resonant electropop—introspective lyrics with infectious hooks. In early 2024, they compiled “What Love Is” into an EP of the same name, followed later by “Makes Me Wanna Dance” (2025), pushing more into euphoric, house-influenced pop while retaining lyrical depth. Their debut album "Interior" is going to be released on September 2025.
