The Wandering Hearts are a London based alt-country/folk Americana group formed in 2015. The group consists of Tara Wilcox (vocals), A.J. Dean (vocals, acoustic guitar), Tim Prottey-Jones (vocals, acoustic guitar), and Francesca "Chess" Whiffin (vocals, mandolin). The Wandering Hearts' genesis arose in late 2015 when Tara Wilcox and Tim Prottey-Jones met at a gig they were both separately performing at. Between the two, there was immense experience in the field, with Prottey-Jones having worked extensively as a multi-instrumental session musician and in musical theatre, and Wilcox having years of singing experience as well as her own singing school. Shortly after meeting, Prottey-Jones and Wilcox were put in touch and introduced by mutual friends to A.J. Dean, a singer/guitarist who was a former member of the U.K. rock band the Bluejays; and Chess Whiffin, who is also a former musical theatre performer. Having first rehearsed a song written by Prottey-Jones at his apartment, the group immediately hit it off. Initially calling themselves the Paper hearts, they recorded two demos titled: Today Is Ours and Sunshine. Both were uploaded to SoundCloud and received a quick response of interest. Within a few weeks, they auditioned for Decca Records who signed them on the spot. The group, now renamed to The Wandering Hearts, released their debut single Wish I Could in early 2017, and began to perform at numerous festivals around the UK. Following the release of their debut album, Wild Silence, the group continued to grow and flourish, including a performance in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry in 2018.
