Walter Smith III (b. September 24th, 1980) is an American jazz saxophonist. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 7 in his hometown of Houston, TX. In 1998, Smith received a full tuition scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music; and a United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts medal. Walter Graduated from Berklee in 2003 with a degree in Music Education. Walter is currently touring with the Sean Jones Sextet, and Christian Scott, both of which have new releases coming soon. In addition to these groups, Walter tours with Jason Moran’s Big Bandwagon, Christian McBride situation, as well as his own quintet.
