Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, vocalist/percussionist Anders Colsefni, and bassist Paul Gray. The band is recognized for its distinctive image, aggressive musical style, and energetic live performances. Before the band released their self-titled debut, "Slipknot" in 1999, which garnered significant attention, old lineup with Anders Colsefni on vocals released their independent album, "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." in 1996. Their second album, "[album artist"[album=Slipknot]Iowa," was released in 2001 and contributed to their growing popularity. After a brief hiatus, they returned in 2004 with their third album, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)," followed by another hiatus. In 2008, they released "All Hope Is Gone," which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. Their fifth studio album, ".5: The Gray Chapter," came out in 2014. Subsequent releases include "We Are Not Your Kind" in 2019 and "The End, So Far" in 2022. The band has also issued two live albums, "9.0: Live" and "Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico," a compilation album titled "Antennas to Hell," and several live DVDs. Slipknot has sold approximately 30 million records worldwide, including over 12 million in the United States. After Slipknot disbanded, Stiemy ended his involvement in music and pursued careers in visual art and culinary arts. Chang, the band's drummer, also stopped playing music.
