Mikail Aslan biography

The Kurdish folk musician Mikail Aslan (Tenbur, Saxophon, Guitar, Singing), cousin of Ahmet Aslan, was born in 1972 in Tunceli. After ten years he had to migrate, together with his family, to Kayseri. After his graduation from high school, he attended university to study mathematics. In his second year in university he had to prematurely break the study due to political reasons, and began to work professionally in in the music business. Since his childhood, he has played the Tenbur. In Turkey, he worked with most of the well-known Kurdish musicians and founded Grup Munzur. He composed his own songs and released several tapes and CDs with Group Munzur. In 1995, he moved to Germany. In 2001, he began to study the guitar and saxophone at the 'Peter Cornelius Konservatorium' in Mainz . In 2003 he released the CD "Kilitê Kou", which reveals the alevitischen cultural music from his homeland Dersim. By the time, he composed the music to two documentary films about Anatolia, broadcasted on ARTE (German-French Culture Television) and ZDF (Second Channel of German Television).
