Deerhoof is an American independent music group formed in San Francisco in 1994. It began as an improvisational bass and harmonica solo project by Rob Fisk, who later joined 7 Year Rabbit Cycle and Common Eider, King Eider. The current lineup includes founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez. The band initially performed improvised noise punk and gained wider recognition in the 2000s for their self-produced music that combines noise, catchy pop melodies, and an experimental approach. Deerhoof has released more than a dozen studio albums since 1997, with "Mountain Moves" released in September 2017. The band has received critical acclaim, with Pitchfork describing them as "the best band in the world," and The New York Times calling them "one of the most original rock bands to have come along in the last decade." From their beginnings as a relatively obscure noise act in San Francisco, Deerhoof has become one of the most influential bands in indie music, known for their energetic and unconventional style.
