S.p.y biography
Carlos Lima, better known as S.P.Y, is a DJ and music producer from São Paulo, Brazil, currently living in Bristol, UK. He moved to London in 2003 to become a graphic designer but quickly discovered his natural talent for making music. He began his career in 2005, appearing on the compilation "The Winter Of Content" released by Metalheadz, with a track entitled "Till Dawn". A year later, he made his official debut with the single "Black Flag / Double Dragon" released on the then newly founded label Med School Music, which was created by another well-known label Hospital Records. In 2007, he released another single on Med School and it was "Ghost Ship / Silent Sleeper", after this release his adventure with the project belonging to Hospital Records ended. In the meantime, he released his music on other well-known labels such as: Samurai Music, Soul:R, Spearhead Records, Critical Music, C.I.A and Innerground Records. He has collaborated with artists such as DJ Marky, Total Science, Kasra, BCee, Flava D, Inja, Nu:Logic, Etherwood, London Elektricity, Diane Charlemange and many others. In 2012, there was a breakthrough as the artist signed an exclusive contract with Hospital Records, which resulted in his debut album entitled "What The Future Holds", which received the award in the "Best Album" category at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards 2012. In 2014, he released his second album titled "Back To Basics", which was released in two parts due to the large number of tracks, the album contains 24 tracks in total. In 2015, he released an EP titled "BRSTL Hardcore", which was the result of a collaboration between Hospital Records and NEST (It's a sublabel owned by OWSLA). In 2017, he released an EP entitled "Alone In The Dark", which was divided into three parts. In 2019, he released his third album entitled "Dubplate Style", which was characterized by a distinct old-school vibe. In 2021, S.P.Y founded his own label called DARKMTTR Records on which he releases mainly his music and sometimes the music of other artists.
His brother Jorge also makes Drum & Bass music as Unreal.
