Possessed biography

1) Possessed is an American death metal/thrash metal band and was formed in 1983 in San Francisco, California. After breaking up shortly after The Eyes of Horror, The band reformed under Mike Torrao in 1990. After releasing a couple of demos, the band split up. Possessed reformed again under original bassist/vocalist Jeff Becerra in 2007. They are noted for their fast playing style, Becerra's guttural vocals and have been cited as an influence on the death metal genre. The band's influence on the genre is so great that they are sometimes called the "godfathers" of the death metal genre and are often considered the first death metal group, with the name of the genre possibly coming from their first demo entitled "Death Metal". The band were finally on the verge of signing a major deal, when tragedy struck. Whilst returning home from a gig in 1976, the bands van drove into a stationary tanker, taking the lives of three band members.
